Possibly from a Penobscot word.[1]

oquassa (plural oquassas)
- (archaic) A type of blueback trout, Salvelinus oquassa, specifically those found in the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine. [fell out of use around 1920] Now considered to be the same species as the Sunapee trout.
