Finnish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Literally in/on a long sight (in a weapon). Probably a mistranslation of Swedish på lång sikt, with sikt (sight, view) being confused with sikte (sight (in a weapon)).

Phrase

[edit]

pitkällä tähtäimellä

  1. in the long run, in the long term

Usage notes

[edit]

It is recommendable to say pitkällä tähtäyksellä instead as "tähtäin" means the sight of a weapon.
