Etymology[edit]
An early loanword from a South Slavic language, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *porǫčiti (“to hand to, to leave to somebody”), a formation from *rǫka (“hand”). Compare Serbo-Croatian poručiti (“to send word, to inform”).[1]
