     Un día varem trobar un corn marí molt gros, ja buyt de dins, rentat per l'aygatge y la sorra y axugat pel bon sol de juny. Desseguida la Jacobé va descobrirhi las més admirables virtuts. Se'l va posar á la orella y escolta que escoltarás, sense moure las parpellas, ni quasi respirar. Després va donármel á mi. "Escólta, Minguet; no't moguis ni't postiquis; veurás si'n sentirás de cosas!... Aquest corn es una mena d'orella d'òs, té ¿veus el cau? Ha estat llargas nits y llarchs días al fons del mar, parant ment á tots els sorolls... y encara li rebomborejan per dedins. Sents?... uuuu... ¿oy?... Axò és la fressa del vent. També hi ronca la maror. Vés escoltant. Com més escoltis més clar ho sentirás tot: la tronada, la pluja, 'l vent, totas las remors del temporal. Jo fins hi he sentit un ay llastimós, Reyna pura, que devía ser d'algú que's negava." Y efectivament, en aquells temps d'ignocencia ¡que'n feyan somniar de cosas els sorolls d'un corn!

     One day we found a very big conch, empty inside, washed by the waves and the sand and dried out by the good June sun. Right away Jacobé discovered the most admirable virtues in it. She put it to her ear and listened as you would listen, without blinking an eye, hardly even breathing. Afterwards she gave it to me. "Listen, Minguet; don't move or even budge; see what things you hear! This shell is a kind of bone ear, do you see the canal? It's been on the floor of the sea for long days and long nights, paying attention to all the sounds...and now they rumble inside. You hear? ooooh...yeah? This is the murmur of the wind. Also the snoring of the sea. Keep listening. The more you do, the more clearly you will hear everything: the thunder, the rain, the wind, all the sounds of the storm. I even heard a sorry cry, dear me, which must have been from someone who drowned." And, indeed, in those innocent times, how the sounds of seashell made me dream!
