Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ταρκάσιον (tarkásion), from Arabic تَرْكَاش (tarkāš), from Persian ترکش (tarkaš), earlier تیرکش (tirkaš), derived from تیر (tir, arrow) + کش (kaš, container); modified by influence of turco (Turkish).
