Etymology[edit]
From vád (“charge, accusation”) + -at (accusative suffix) + emel (“to lift, raise”). Compare German Anklage (“charge”) and erheben (“to raise”), together to bring charges.

- (law, idiomatic) to press charges (against someone: ellen), bring a charge or an accusation, indict, arraign, impeach someone (to formally accuse a person of a crime)
- Nem kívánok vádat emelni. ― I don't want to press charges.
- Nem emelek vádat ellenük. ― I'm not pressing charges against them.
