From Middle Low German ôgenblik. Compare Norwegian Bokmål øyeblikk, Dutch ogenblik, German Augenblick, Icelandic augnablik, Swedish ögonblick, Yiddish אויגנבליק (oygnblik), and English eyeblink. Equivalent to øje (eye) +‎ blik (look).
