Greek[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From ζαρζαβάτι (zarzaváti) + -ικό (-ikó); the ending -ικό (-ikó) serves to specify that the word refers to a singular/particular vegetable, as the etymological root Ottoman Turkish زرزوات (zarzavat) originally had collective noun status.
