Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic архисѵнаго́гъ (arxisünagógŭ), from Ancient Greek ἀρχισῠνᾰ́γωγος (arkhisunágōgos). By surface analysis, архи- (arxi-) +‎ Ancient Greek συνάγωγος (sunágōgos, synagogue).
