Related to Polish kartać (to incite, to instigate), Ukrainian карта́ти (kartáty, to scold, to reproach), Bulgarian къ́ртя (kǎ́rtja, I break), Russian коро́ткий (korótkij, short); literally, "to speak in a tongue-twister, to speak abbreviated".
