Etymology[edit]
Related to мо́віць (móvicʹ), размаўля́ць (razmaŭljácʹ), negated by prefix не- (nje-). Literally (somewhat) "something small not speaking". Cognates include Ukrainian немовля́ (nemovljá), Polish niemowlę with the same meaning.
