Inherited from Proto-Slavic *selьskъ. By surface analysis, село́ (seló, village) +‎ -ськи́й (-sʹkýj, adjective-forming suffix). Compare Russian се́льский (sélʹskij), Belarusian се́льскі (sjélʹski).
