Bashkir[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Uncertain. Perhaps from Arabic شَابّ (šābb, “young”). However, the semantic shift looks dubious.
Compare with Karakhanid [script needed] (šeb, “fast, promptly, immediately”).[1]
