Wholly borrowed from Iranian (compare Parthian 𐭀𐭅𐭉𐭓𐭍 (ʾwyrn, ruin, destruction), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾwylʾn' /⁠awērān⁠/), Persian ویران (virân, desolate, ruined)) or formed in Armenian as աւերեմ (awerem) +‎ -անք (-ankʻ).
