Etymology

[edit]

From գոլ (gol) +‎ -շի (-ši); the (-r) in the spelling գոլորշի (golorši) was inserted by analogy with բոլորշի (bolorši).

Alternatively, the original form is գոլորշի (golorši), according to Martirosyan derived from Proto-Indo-European *wol-HuVrs-yeh₂- (warm vapour), composed of *wol- (warm), whence գոլ (gol), and *Hwers-, *Hwors-, whence Hittite [script needed] (warša-, fog, mist), Ancient Greek ἕρση (hérsē, dew).
