Inherited from Paisaci Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀺 (aggi), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀺 (aggi), from Sanskrit अग्नि (agní), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hagníš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁n̥gʷnis. Alternatively ultimately from Old Gujarati आगि (āgi).[1]
