Etymology[edit]
An Arabised rendition of خُدا حافِظ (xudā hāfiz), from Classical Persian خُدَا حَافِظ (xudā hāfiz) ('May the Lord be your protector'), from خُدَا (xudā) (lord) + حَافِظ (hāfiz) (keeper, protector), from Arabic حَافِظ (ḥāfiẓ) (keeper, caretaker), from حَفَظَ (ḥafaẓa) (to preserve, to protect, to defend).
