Inherited from Proto-Turkic *öp- (to kiss); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰇𐰯 (öp-), Azerbaijani öpmək, Bashkir үбеү (übew), Kazakh өбу (öbu), Kyrgyz өбүү (öbüü), Southern Altai ӧбӧр (öbör), Turkmen öpmek, Uyghur ئۆپمەك (öpmek) and Uzbek oʻpmoq.
