Borrowed from Old Anatolian Turkish, being a compound of ایمان (faith) +‎ Old Anatolian Turkish قلی (the possessed form of قل (slave)), literally slave of the faith; compare Azerbaijani İmanqulu, Chagatai ایمان‌قلی, Turkish İmankulu.
