Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tegiŋ (squirrel); cognate with Bashkir тейен (teyen), Kazakh тиін (tiın), Kyrgyz: тыйын (tıyın), Tatar тиен (tiyen), Uyghur تىيىن (tiyin), Uzbek tiyin and Yakut тииҥ (tiiñ).
