Related to Northern Kurdish zerêşk, zirêşk, zirîşk, Gilaki [script needed] (zərəšk); Persian زریک (zerik), زرک (zerek), زرنگ (zarang), زراج (zarâj), زراک (zarâk); Yidgha [script needed] (azīto); Khotanese ysālva; all meaning "barberry" and ultimately deriving from the word for "yellow": compare Persian زر (zar, gold).
