Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (slgyn' /⁠sargēn⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *cákr̥, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćákr̥, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱókʷr̥. Cognate with Sanskrit शकृत् (śakṛt, dung, manure), Ancient Greek κόπρος (kópros, dung, manure).
