Etymology

From Aramaic חַמְשַׁעְסַר (ḥaməšaʿəsar). Equivalent to ܚܲܡܫܵܐ (ḥamšā, five) +‎ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ (ʿisrā, ten); compare Arabic خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ (ḵamsata ʕašara) and Hebrew חֲמִשָּׁה עָשָׂר (khamishá 'asár).
