Etymology

From Aramaic תַּרְתַעֵסְרֶא (tarṯaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܲܪܬܹܝܢ (tartēn, two) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ˁissar, ten); compare Arabic اِثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ (iṯnatā ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה (shtém 'esré).
