Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀸𑀯𑀮 (uttāvala), from Sanskrit *उत्तापल (uttāpala, “impetuous”), from उत्ताप (uttāpa) + -ल (-la).[1]
