Probably from metathesis of Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀲𑀼𑀫𑀸 (usumā), 𑀉𑀲𑁆𑀫𑀸 (usmā), from Sanskrit ऊष्मन् (ūṣman, “heat”).
