[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀸𑀳𑀺𑀡 (dāhiṇa), from a derivative of Sanskrit दक्षिण (dákṣiṇa), from Proto-Indo-European *deḱs-. Cognates include Early Assamese ডাহিন (ḍahino), Ancient Greek δεξιός (dexiós) and Latin dexter.
