Borrowed from Classical Persian فرض (farz), from Arabic فَرْض (farḍ). Cognate with Assamese ফৰজ (phoroz), Odia ଫରଜ (phôrôjô), Hindustani فرض / फ़र्ज़ (farz), Gujarati ફરજ (pharaj), Punjabi ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ (faraz).
