Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Early Assamese শশুৰ (śośuro), from Sanskrit শ্ৱশুৰ (śvaśura), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *swáśuras, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swáćuras, from Proto-Indo-European *swéḱuros. Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠃꠞ (hoúr), Bengali শশুর (śośur), Hindustani سسر / ससुर (sasur).
