அண்ண (aṇṇa) +‎ -ன் (-ṉ). From Proto-Dravidian *aṇṇa (elder brother). Cognate with Telugu అన్న (anna), Kannada ಅಣ್ಣ (aṇṇa), Sholaga ಅಣ್ಣ (aṇṇa), Tulu ಅಣ್ಣೆ (aṇṇe), or ಅನ್ನೆ (anne), Malayalam അണ്ണ (aṇṇa), or അണ്ണൻ (aṇṇaṉ).
