Etymology[edit]
From Middle Chinese 掘 (MC gjut|gjwot, “to dig”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຂຸດ (khut), Lü ᦃᦳᧆ (ẋud), Shan ၶုတ်း (khút), Ahom 𑜁𑜤𑜄𑜫 (khut), Bouyei gud, Zhuang gud or goed or hud.
