Usage notes[edit]
- Unlike the other numbers, this number is often found omitted or placed after the noun, but this is considered colloquial now. For example:
- When forming part of a compound number, this number is generally pronounced เอ็ด (èt), not หนึ่ง (nʉ̀ng). For example, ๒๑ ("21") is pronounced ยี่สิบเอ็ด (yîi-sìp-èt), not ยี่สิบหนึ่ง (yîi-sìp-nʉ̀ng). Pronouncing หนึ่ง (nʉ̀ng) is often found in military usage to distinguish เอ็ด (èt) from เจ็ด (jèt, “seven”).
