From Old Khmer bejra, beja, bejña (diamond); ultimately from Sanskrit वज्र (vajra, diamond; thunderbolt; vajra, Indra's weapon). Cognate Modern Khmer ពេជ្រ (pɨc). And cognate with Thai พัชระ, พิเชียร, วชิระ, วัชระ, วิเชียร (wí-chiian).
