Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *na-(n/t) (“sick; evil spirit”). Cognate with Mizo nâ, nat (“ill, sick; illness”), Tibetan ན (na, “ill, sick”), Nuosu ꆅ (na, “hurt, pain, sore; illness”), Lisu ꓠꓻ (nɑ, “sore, sick, ill”), and Chinese 難/难 (nán, “bad, unpleasant”). Doublet of နတ် (nat, “nat spirit”).
