Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The formation is similar to θόρυβος (thórubos) and κόναβος (kónabos). Perhaps onomatopoeic, but Furnée compares ἀροπῆσαι (aropêsai, to tread), which points to Pre-Greek origin.
