Compound of 膨れ (fukure, puffed, puffed up, stem of verb 膨れる (fukureru, to become puffed up)) +‎ (tsura, face), from the practice of puffing one's cheeks in an expression of displeasure.[1][2][3]

First cited to the late 1700s.[1]
