From Late or Medieval Latin Branderici, in origin a Germanic personal name expressed as a Latin genitive, so meaning "Branderic's property"; from Suevic or Gothic, from Proto-Germanic *Branderīks, from *brandaz (sword) + *rīks (king).[1]
