Etymology[edit]
Refers to the district of Habiganj, which is a transliteration of হবিগঞ্জ (hobigonj), a corruption of হবিবগঞ্জ (hobibogonj), ultimately a bilingual compound of Arabic حبيب (“beloved”) + Persian گنج (“treasury, store”), as the district was named after the local ruler Syed Habibuddin.
