Proto-Uralic[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Koivulehto (2006) suggests borrowing from early Proto-Iranian *dzyewH- (later *ǰyawH-), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵyewh₁-, though this has chronological problems: the sound change *e > *a is usually dated as already common Indo-Iranian, and this theory is now usually disregarded.
Verb[edit]
*sewe-
- to eat
Descendants[edit]
- Proto-Samoyedic: *timä (“tooth”)
- Ugric:
- Permic:
- Proto-Mordvinic:
- Proto-Finnic: *söödäk (see there for further descendants)
