*hailagaz is currently listed as a derived term for both etymologies. Seems to me the noun is the more likely origin, as the adjective is, well, already an adjective. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 12:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes adjectives get derived from adjectives without any apparent motive, though. And perhaps *hailagaz is actually a lot older and formed in some way that is no longer apparent. —Rua (mew) 12:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
