Slang term

I'm already thinking of adding an entry for slang term Marites (“female gossiper”) as a hot word, but can I create an entry for it now? TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 02:26, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: Strictly speaking, in Wiktionary guidelines, if you can find three citations (even online), that is independent (made by different authors) and spanning at least a year (meaning the citations were written at least a year apart from each other), then we can include it. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 03:24, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Just added the slang sense, with hot sense tag. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 04:35, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Just asking, when did Marites as slang first appeared? As far as I know, it's around this December, from some FB meme. Then it spread through radio talk hosts. News items about this word? TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 04:49, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: I don't think it has to be news articles. The one I sent you is a published book (I think) from this year. The term "Marites" I think already existed last year. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:42, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: I think the TikToker Justine Luzares had a big role in popularizing the term "Marites", since his Tiktok videos features the character "Marites", the gossipy neighbor. https://interaksyon.philstar.com/trends-spotlights/2021/05/28/192817/cup-of-tea-from-marites-get-to-know-justine-luzares-tiktok-creator-known-for-his-accents/
- Aside from that, this MB article says it's from 2020. https://mb.com.ph/2021/11/11/marites-from-being-just-a-street-gossiper-to-an-online-sensation/ --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:46, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: This is an article from August 2020 already discussing the term "Marites" https://philnews.ph/2020/08/05/manahimik-ka-marites-pinay-karen-becomes-most-hate-figure-in-fb/ --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:47, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks for the info, but I mean news discussing this term, like those you provided. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 06:42, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Just added the usage in question. Now, can this be moved to Talk:Marites and this thread renamed to "Slang usage"? TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 06:48, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: Yeah, that's fine. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 09:16, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
