Any evidence of widespread use? - TheDaveRoss 14:32, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

This one, at least, will be easily citable. I might even be able to do it just from political cartoons. But US politics has changed so much in just the last fifteen years that all these terms seem outdated to me. Someone calling him Shrub today might get odd looks even from people who would have used that name every day when he was in office. I guess we prefer to insult our current leaders, not the ones who've led us in the past. That's not to say we shouldn't research these, but I'll leave it up to others whether to prioritize these over our many other tasks, or to let them pass. Soap 15:42, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I actually thought I was going to be able to close this out with three webcomics just with a single search of my hard drive, but I forgot how long it's been and that I don't have that computer anymore. I'll at least get to this within a month if nobody else does since it is likely the easiest of all of these to handle. I'm curious about the etymology, though .... I wouldn't say it's wrong, but I'd just assumed people were playing with the letters in the name ... I never really thought of a shrub as being, in particular, a smaller or lesser type of bush. Thank you so much. Those are the kind of cites that cant just be scooped up with a single quick search like I was going to do (I think syndicated political cartoons are good cites just as newspapers in general are, but it probably wouldnt have been best to have all three of our cites be from cartoons).
