I've noticed many people colloquially seem to misuse this term (at least in the US) as a synonym for "disadvantage" or "con" (vs. "pro"). When describing a list of negative aspects or cons/disadvantages for a given thing, they may use "downfall". I think this may be in part due to a mix-up with "downside", which can be used that way, but more often in the context of a dichotomy (as opposed to "upside") rather than in a list of things. Is it worth mentioning any of these in usage notes, or should it just be avoided altogether to avoid possible confusion? Word dewd544 (talk) 20:42, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
