@Per utramque cavernam What do you think about the TLFi having French endurer as a borrowing? Phonetically, it passes the inherited test (Old French even had a version andurer), and it was attested relatively early, in the mid 11th century. Other sources don't seem to list it as such. Do you think it's because French already had endurcir and the like? I mean they have the closely related durer as not borrowed. Sometimes the TLFi annoys me because they don't explain why they think a given term is borrowed, and some terms that look all right they just list as such. I wonder how accurate they are. @Word dewd544: Yeah, Bloch and von Wartburg don't say anything about it being a borrowing. I unfortunately have no idea why the TLFi listed it as such. Maybe we should keep track of all these unexplained TLFi labellings somewhere? This is not the first time we're left wondering why they did that. --Per utramque cavernam 10:25, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
