Plural form

[edit]

I found three locations on the web where "insured" is described as being a proper plural form for "insured":

  1. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/insured
  2. http://www.yourdictionary.com/insured
  3. http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/insured

I don't have access to a "paper" dictionary right now, but I'll look when I get home. Justin W Smith 19:06, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK. It appears that the source for all 3 of these may be "The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition". Justin W Smith 19:08, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

We often discuss "the rich", "the poor", "the meek", "the willing" etc. as things we do not include as nouns, since they can be understood as adjectives. "The insured" feels the same (not so sure about "two insured", if that actually gets used). "Insureds" on the other hand can only be a noun plural. Equinox 13:52, 6 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Equinox:OED entries for insured and its (BrE) synonym assured show some differences. --Backinstadiums (talk) 10:59, 7 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
