@This, that and the other See [2]. This is based on work by Bennett, which is somewhat dated, but it has corrections applied where necessary using research from 1978. I would not trust a mass-market dictionary for this purpose, you want to look at scholarly sources. However, there may be more recent scholarly sources than are indicated on this page; I don't know. @Benwing2 Hah true, Collins Gem has definitely been wrong before. Your linked webpage is inferring the length of the vowel based on Romance evidence from lūcta, which is probably as good as we would ever get. Thanks for filling me in!
