OED notes this may come from Portuguese: casamento de rapôsa which literally means ‘vixen's wedding’. Alternatively, it may have come to South African English by way of Zulu's umshado we zinkawu, which literally means ‘wedding for monkeys’. WilliamKF (talk) 18:40, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
