Really? 碟子 was almost unattested in literature prior to early Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Perhaps a more direct relationship with words from other Altaic languages (eg. Middle Korean 뎝시 (tyepsi, “tray”)) is more likely? (Although the Korean word looks like it ultimately came from a diminutive form of Chinese dep.) Wyang (talk) 06:24, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
