From Spanish albéitar (farrier, veterinarian), from Arabic الْبَيْطَار (al-bayṭār, veterinarian, farrier), from Ancient Greek ἱππιατρός (hippiatrós); with the ending reinterpreted as the occupational suffix -ari.
