Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic канъдило (kanŭdilo) or Greek καντήλα (kantíla), κάνδηλα (kándila), from Latin candēla. Compare Bulgarian кандило (kandilo), Serbo-Croatian kàndilo, Aromanian cãndilã. Compare also Turkish kandil.
